Value Windows and Doors was founded by James and Lisa Ye in 2005, with a shared vision to deliver high-quality windows and doors to the market. Their journey wasn’t without challenges; two years after the company’s inception, the 2007 financial crisis hit, plunging many businesses into turmoil. Window and door companies were among the hardest hit, with firms shutting down on a weekly basis.
Faced with the looming prospect of closure, James and Lisa knew they had to make drastic changes to keep their dreams alive. They decided to disrupt the norm by significantly reducing their lead time to three days. To accomplish this, they expanded their operations to include a second and third shift, an initiative that demanded immense dedication and hard work from all team members.
Their innovative approach and sheer determination were the driving forces that not only kept Value Windows and Doors afloat but also enabled the company to thrive amid the crisis. This story is a testament to our roots; it illustrates the resilience, innovation, and tenacity that continue to be at the heart of our operations to this day.
Through the years, our commitment to delivering top-notch products and service has never wavered. We have grown from those tough early years into a leading provider in the industry, yet we remain grounded in the values instilled by our founders – James and Lisa!
Our mission is to “Bring customers’ imagination to reality by engineering advanced solutions to add Value to their quality of space and life.” It’s a mission that inspires us, guiding each decision we make and every action we take.
As we strive to fulfill this mission, we are guided by our core values: Innovation, continuously seeking new and better ways of doing things; Win-Win, ensuring mutual success for our clients, our company, and our employees; Outperform, constantly striving to exceed expectations; Think Big and Broad, maintaining a grand vision for what we can achieve; Make It Real, translating our ambitious ideas into tangible outcomes; and Passion, committing wholeheartedly to our mission and to the success of our company.
The window and door industry, by nature, is predominantly domestic. International window companies doing business in the U.S. are relatively rare, and this is attributable to several key factors.
Firstly, regulatory compliance plays a significant role. Window companies operating in the U.S. are required to be certified by the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA). This alliance is designed to establish minimum industry standards, guaranteeing a base level of quality from certified manufacturers and thereby protecting the reputation of the industry. In countries without such stringent standards and regulations, companies often engage in a race to the bottom, cutting material costs by adding fillers, taking shortcuts, and skimping on quality.
The U.S. is a country that places great emphasis on liability. Our products form a critical component of homes, serving as a shield to protect families from the elements, noise, and more. The responsibility that comes with this is one that we at Value Windows and Doors take very seriously. We will delve into the specifics of FGIA certification, and its importance to our commitment to quality, in a later segment of this guide.
Another challenge faced by international companies is managing freight and delivery lead times. Windows and doors, particularly those with glass components, are delicate and can break during transit. Such damage can cause significant delays in construction timelines, leading to increased costs and potential contractual liabilities. Although purchasing international products may present initial cost savings, the risks associated with delayed shipments or damaged goods, and the consequential impact on construction, often deter prospective buyers.
At Value Windows and Doors, we are committed to minimizing these risks. We understand that our success hinges on our capacity to be responsive, flexible, and innovative. In today’s fast-paced world, the traditional industry of windows and doors is evolving, making it an exciting and challenging space to navigate.
We consider ourselves more than just a manufacturing company. We see ourselves as a technology company at the forefront of transforming this traditional industry. We tirelessly explore all avenues for integrating technology into our processes and products, aiming to constantly improve efficiency and quality.
When we look at global best practices, German window and door companies are considered the epitome. They are pioneers in efficiency, innovation, product features, and technology use. Unfortunately, many American companies lag about 10-15 years behind their German counterparts in these regards. At Value Windows and Doors, we strive to emulate these high standards and set our sights on becoming the most technologically advanced window and door company in the United States.
Unlike many window companies that primarily focus on selling and marketing their product, we take a different approach. Our focus is on designing better products, innovating manufacturing methods, and ensuring we meet our customers’ needs more efficiently. Innovative products, world-class production facilities and processes, and outstanding responsiveness to our customers – these are our main strategic objectives.
In our pursuit to meet these objectives, we continue to leverage our unique capabilities and strengths, reinforcing our commitment to add value to the quality of our customers’ spaces and lives.
Value Windows and Doors operates within an intricate network of related companies, each focusing on a distinct business area and product line. This strategic setup allows us to maintain strict control over the quality of components while optimizing cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
We source our raw materials, including extrusions, hardware, and other necessary components, from our partner company, Value Wholesaler. This relationship ensures a steady supply of superior materials for our manufacturing processes.
In addition to the components we receive from Value Wholesaler, your facility also purchases Insulated Glass Units (IGUs) from a sister company. These IGUs play a critical role in the construction of our windows, offering superior thermal insulation and improving energy efficiency.
Once all components are received, our skilled factory team assembles the final products according to our stringent quality standards. Each window and door are carefully crafted to ensure durability, function, and aesthetics.
Upon completion, these products are then sold to Value Windows and Doors Inc., which handles the marketing, sales, and distribution of our windows and doors to customers.
At the heart of Value Windows and Doors is our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, Cantor, developed by A+W. This industry-specific software is meticulously engineered to provide comprehensive resource planning support tailored to the unique demands of fenestration.
Our philosophy is to operate as a technology company within the fenestration industry, weaving advanced solutions into the fabric of our processes.
We strive to be an industry leader, drawing inspiration from the world’s best window and door companies, many of which are in Germany and leverage similar technology to drive intricate machinery with unparalleled efficiency. Our goal is to showcase such exemplary performance right here in the United States.
